The Mighty Pen’s rates are on the reasonable end of industry standard, and they vary depending upon the type of edit and the “cleanliness” of the work. The Pen also offers a manuscript critique at the rate of $1 per page. This includes a read-through with direct feedback on issues we see, as well as any specific issues the author points out. Our critique is generally 3-5 pages long. If you have questions about your work (e.g.: “Is it ready for submission?” “Does the plot make sense?” “Are my characters sympathetic?” “Is the structure OK?”), this is a fast, inexpensive way to get your questions answered by a professional.

Your Invoice:

One-third of the estimate, our retainer, is due at the start of the edit. The Mighty Pen invoices all clients monthly thereafter, and the 1/3 retainer is credited to your final bill. Payment is due in full upon receipt of the invoice. We accept checks and major credit cards. Please make checks out to: The Mighty Pen, LLC, and mail to P.O. Box 33983, Portland, Oregon 97292. What to expect on your bill: Your first phone consultation and in-person meeting are free of charge. Subsequent meetings and phone conversations will be billed at the regular project rate in fifteen-minute increments.
